2012

  • Congratulations to Hannah Holscher on the publication of two manuscripts regarding the role of prebiotics and probiotics in infant formulas. She also was awarded the prestigious David H. Baker Nutrition Scholar Award.
  • Congratulations to Jennifer Barnes who was awarded the Harry M. Vars Award, Clinical Nutrition Week, 2012 Which is awarded annually to the best research manuscript and presentation at Clinical Nutrition Week. Jennifer was also awarded the Promising Investigator Award, Clinical Nutrition Week, 2012 which is a travel award presented to the first authors of the top abstracts. Jennifer was awarded the James L. Robinson Nutrition Impact Award, 2012 which is awarded annually to the graduate student making the greatest extracurricular impact on the Division of Nutritional Sciences. Jennifer was also awarded a Margin of Excellence Travel Award by the Division of Nutritional Sciences.

2011

  • Congratulations to Dr. Kelly Tappenden, who was recently appointed as the Kraft Foods Human Nutrition Professor and also named as the FACULTY AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING, Senior awarded by the College of ACES Funk Award Committee.
  • Congratulations to Hannah Holscher was awarded the James L. Robinson Nutrition Impact Award; and also named to List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by their Students for her work as a T.A. in FSHN 220. She also passed her Preliminary Examination. On the national scene, Hannah was selected as Student Representative for the Lactation Research Interest Section of the American Society for Nutrition (ASN). On top of everything else, Hannah became engaged!
  • Congratulations to Will Davis on his graduation from the University of Illinois with a BS in Cellular and Molecular Biology. Thank you for four years of service on our undergraduate research team Will!
  • Welcome Jamie Doligale and Sarah Ausmus as new members of our undergraduate research team.

2010

  • Congratulations to Dr. Kelly Tappenden who has been selected as the new editor-in-chief of the Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (JPEN). JPEN is the premier scientific journal of nutrition and metabolic support, publishing original peer-reviewed articles about research that defines the cutting edge of basic and clinical discoveries in the field, with the goal of optimizing the care of patients receiving enteral or intravenous therapies.
  • Congratulations to Hannah Holscher was named as the FSHN Outstanding Teaching Assistant, and also named to the list of teachers ranked as excellent by their students (FSHN 220).
  • Congratulations to Jennifer Barnes was names as a Ruth L. Kirschstein Fellow, 2010-2012, which supports trainees investigating nutritional regulation of inflammation and the American Society for Nutrition Predoctoral Fellowship which is awarded annually based on significance, feasibility, scientific quality and potential for contribution to the field of nutrition. Jennifer received a Margin of Excellence Travel Award and a Margin of Excellence Research Award from the Division of Nutritional Sciences. Jennifer was awarded the 2010 Abbott Nutrition Certificate in Business Administration Scholarship. She was also named to the List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by Their Students 2010.

  • Pedometer Challenge:  We all hit the road this week with our pedometers  as we step out  for the Campus Pedometer  Challenge.  The lab goal is 10,000 a week for a month . Rumor has it that the top score so far is 20,000.  Way to go!
